Common Knee Injuries That Can Be Treated by a Chiropractor

Sometimes knee pain treatment can be unsuccessful and leave you frustrated. Knee pain can be caused by bone misalignment, muscle imbalances caused by overuse, repetitive motions, or a sports injury. If you live in the Tacoma area and you’ve been struggling with knee pain, it’s time to book an appointment with our chiropractor at Accident & Injury Chiropractic. Below are some of the knee injuries that we treat using chiropractic care.

Arthritis of the Knee

Arthritis is a common cause of knee pain and it can affect multiple structures like ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Symptoms include locking joints and stiffness.

Ligament Injuries

Injury to the ligaments can sometimes be called a sprain. The ACL can be torn or stretched by a direct or sudden impact, such as a sports injury or an auto accident. Injuries to outer ligaments can be caused by an impact on that side of the knee. This injury can be followed by a “pop” sound.

Iliotibial Band Syndrome

Inflammation of the tendon is usually caused by the stress of long term overuse. Symptoms include a burning sensation at the side of the knee and the pain can also radiate up the sides of the thigh.

Meniscus Injuries

Quick rotations or twists of the upper leg or repetitive knee rotations can cause a tear of the meniscus.

Tendon Injuries

These injuries can be caused by a number of different things, from a ruptured tendon to tendonitis. Too much use can cause the tendons to stretch and later become inflamed.

Knee Cartilage Injuries

A softening of the cartilage can occur and is frequently found in cyclists, runners, and soccer players.

Referred Pain

Referred pain can come from hip joints, sacroiliac joints, and the muscle surrounding the knee in the pelvis, low back, and thigh.
